Why We Keep Going Back to Franschhoek

A love letter to wine, wanderings, and weekends that turn into memories

They say you shouldn’t holiday in the same place twice — but we say, you just haven’t found your Franschhoek yet.

At Jenny’s Travel, we’ve lost count of how many times we’ve returned to this little slice of Cape Winelands heaven. But here’s the secret: Franschhoek isn’t just a destination. It’s a feeling. One that starts with crisp mountain air and ends with a glass of Shiraz by the fireplace.

We go back for the wine (obviously), but also for the quiet mornings, lazy walks into town, long lunches that become dinners, and that undeniable French flair woven into every detail — from the croissants at Marigold to the understated luxury of Le Quartier Français.

Where We Stay

There’s no shortage of picture-perfect places to overnight, but one that keeps calling us back is Akademie Street Boutique Hotel. Tucked between towering oaks and sun-dappled courtyards, it’s more than just a place to sleep — it’s a warm hug from the moment you arrive.

Think: wood-burning stoves, private plunge pools, vintage touches, and a breakfast you’ll still be thinking about weeks later.

Or, for something a little more secluded, we’ve also booked clients into La Clé des Montagnes, where you can live out your Provençal farm dreams in the heart of the valley — with butlers who know your name, and views that don’t need a filter.

What We Do

We hop on the Franschhoek Wine Tram, of course — there’s no better way to spend the day sipping through vineyards like Haute CabrièreBabylonstoren, and Rickety Bridge without having to drive.

We stroll through the art galleries and boutique shops (don’t miss Everard Read for contemporary SA talent). We plan our days around markets, chocolate tastings, and spa time at Leeu Estates.

And every trip includes that one dinner we talk about for months after — whether it’s Babel at Babylonstoren (yes, it’s worth the hype), La Petite Colombe, or a slow and sultry pairing at Protégé.

The Secret Sauce

What makes Franschhoek magical? It’s the small things: the way the mountains turn pink at sunset. The friendly nods from locals who recognise you. The feeling that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

We book it again and again — for honeymooners, foodies, solo travellers, groups of best friends — and they always come back with that same twinkle in their eye.

Ready for your own Franschhoek fairytale?

Let us tailor-make your getaway — whether you’re dreaming of a romantic long weekend, a wine-fuelled celebration, or just an escape into the kind of peace only found between the vines.
